Whenever the ambient temperature is lower than the return temperature from the equipment, the cooling medium is routed through the dry cooler and cooled by the ambient air. This relieves the refrigerating machine and decreases its workload. Below a defined ambient temperature, the dry cooler assumes the complete cooling capacity and the refrigerating machine switches off. This kind of system can cover a large part of the annual operating hours with free cooling, resulting in significant energy savings.
